why do we love October?

October is almost here. What is it about this month that people love so much? 

Must be the creativity of the days…

• October 1st is National Pumpkin Spice Day. (I wish I liked it.) It’s also National Homemade Cookies Day. (Let’s go instead with that.)
• October 2nd is National Produce Misting Day. (What? There’s a day for that?)
• October 3rd is National Play Outside Day. (It’d be good if all our youngsters got that back.)
• October 4th doubles as both National Golf Lover’s Day and National Vodka Day. (Interesting if people are celebrating both together.)
• October 5th is National Do Something Nice Day. (We only have one day a year for that?)
• October 6th is National Taco Day. (I’m so here for it!)
• October 7th is National Trigeminal Neuralgia Awareness Day. (This was new to me. Trigeminal Neuralgia is a chronic pain condition affecting the trigeminal nerve. This is the largest of the 12 cranial nerves and is responsible for transmitting sensations from the face to the brain.)
• October 8th is National Pierogi Day. (Oh, excellent… I love these!)
• October 9th is National Moldy Cheese Day. (Really? We need a day for that?)
• October 10th is World Mental Health Day. (So good… it’s important to be intentional with our mental, physical and spiritual health… fascinating how they all go together.)
• October 11th is both Clergy Appreciation Day and National Sausage Pizza Day. (Guess what my pastor is getting?)
• October 12th is Columbus Day but also National Kick Butt Day. (Guess the historians thought Christopher kicked some serious you know what.)
• October 13th is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. (I’m grateful to bring more attention to this; it affects so many…)
• October 14th makes me laugh; it’s Be Bald and Be Free Day. :)
• October 15th is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. (To the many friends who’ve gone through this. I’m sorry. We see you.)
• October 16th is National Boss’s Day. (Here’s to mine; he makes me better.)
• October 17th is National Pasta Day. (YES!)
• October 18th is National Chocolate Cupcake Day. (Oh, indeed… I’m here for that, too.)
• October 19th is National Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day. (And here’s where I start thinking we have too many “days.”)
• October 20th is National Chicken and Waffles Day; it’s also National Youth Confidence Day. (I’ll let you decide which is most significant.)
• October 21st is both Hagfish Day and National Reptile Awareness Day. (And no, a hagfish is not a reptile.)
• October 22nd is National Make a Dog’s Day. (Yogi and Griffey can’t wait.)
• October 23rd is National TV Talk Show Host Day and also National Horror Movie Day. (Wondering how those overlap.)
• October 24th is National Bologna Day. (Ba ha ha…)
• October 25th is National Mother-in-Law Day and also National Greasy Foods Day. (Please tell me those days don’t go together.)
• October 26th is National Pumpkin Day, National Tennessee Day and National Chicken Fried Steak Day. (Indeed, a most creative combination.)
• October 27th is Navy Day. (This year, it’s also the release of the documentary, “The One About Matthew Perry.” Should be interesting. May he be honored.)
• October 28th is National Chocolate Day. (Now we’re talking…)
• October 29th is National Cat Day. (Miss you, Zipper.)
• October 30th is National Wicked Day. (Time to defy some gravity.)
• And October 31st is not only Halloween, but also National Doorbell Day and National Knock Knock Joke Day. (Kind of seems like they all go together.)

Without a doubt, different days mean different things to different people. There are even many days not included above. But regardless of any meaning to us, may we always honor those for whom the day has meaning.
